CuriOcean is looking for people to join our team and share our journey in achieving heightened marine awareness among younger generations! CuriOcean Interns and Partners gain leadership experience as they engage in activities focused on citizen science, community outreach, and education; learning skills including partnership development, non-profit operations, donor relations, communication, marketing and promotions, data management, event planning, graphic design, and public speaking. Intern
College students accepted (a minimum of 6 months).
Part Time Interns (a minimum of 6 months).
Interning with CuriOcean consists of supporting the organisation’s innovative marine conservation and education projects and working as part of a dynamic team. Interns have varied opportunities to be involved in both the office (working from home) and the field. They will support CuriOcean’s marine conservation education, community engagement, research and outreach programs. The intern will play a key role in daily operations of CuriOcean and gain valuable insight to the workings of a non-profit marine conservation organisation. Interns work alongside CuriOcean team members and assist in the further development of the project, completing long term goals of the NGO.
- Organising Monthly Beach Cleanings (Community Outreach) - These take place in Salthill, Galway and include contacting participants and the county council.
- Social Media - Creating posts, stories and reels for Instagram and Facebook.
- Creating Merchandise.
- Administrative work.
- Monthly Newsletters - A monthly newsletter is sent out to subscribers with the latest International and Irish marine news, eco tips, fun facts and CuriOcean news.
- Monthly Blog Post - Blog posts with diverse marine conservation/biodiversity themes are posted on the CuriOcean website.
- Funding applications.
- Interns are also highly encouraged to implement independent projects or research if they desire.
Background and requirements :
Interns require a background in areas such as marine biology, zoology, conservation, oceanography, environmental science, social science, education or a related study. Candidates require previous experience with a conservation group or a degree/undergoing a degree in this particular field. Interns must be familiar with social media and google drive and be able to network and collaborate with new people. One must also be able to work with groups of all ages and maintain a high level of professionalism when working with team members and participants. Ideal candidates for the internship program are passionate about the ocean, detail-oriented, organised, thrive on variety, and take initiative. Fluent English is required (Level B2 to C1). Being Garda Vetted is a plus for this position as a lot of the work will involve workshops with children.
